Post e-reader questions
ok, in what can only be called impeccable timing, i decided on Dec. 23 that i would really like to have an e-reader. kind of too late for Christmas, but i figured it would give me plenty of time to explore my options before my birthday in April. so- if anyone has one let me know what you think. what's great about it, what's awful, which one would you get if you had the choice?

Post Re: e-reader questions
I own an iPad which has a variety of reader options on it, including a Kindle app (though I haven't tried it). The main draw for it is the comics, honestly, when it comes to reading (ignoring all the other wonderful things you can do on it). I have been reading Moby Dick on it, as well, using the free iBooks program, which is really easy to navigate.

Downside for some is the way the screen lights. The Kindle isn't backlit so it supposedly isn't as hard on the eyes.

I love my iPad. In terms of expensive toys, it is my fave. I can sit in bed and read a comic and then watch an episode of Veronica Mars on Netflix. Win!

Geez, can a fella have no privacy anymore?!

(It's really good. Midway through season 2. I've been warned to watch out for season 3, though.)

set your expectations really low with season 3 and you won't be too disappointed.

I've got an iPad as well, and I've got iBooks and the Nook software, but not the Kindle software. Reading on an LCD screen is going to be a little tiring, even if you play around with the brightness in iBooks, etc. If you want to read comics, it's the best game in town. If you want to do other stuff with it too, same thing. If you want a dedicated reader, a Kindle is going to be kinder to your eyes. I am considering one to be a companion to the iPad, and I'm most certainly going to get my mom one for her birthday.

the online research i've done actually made the Nook color sound a little better than the Kindle. for instance, the Nook has a library share program where you can trade books for 14 days between other nook owners, which the Kindle can't do.

there were a couple of other little things, as well, but the fact that my friend has a nook and the share program kind of put it over the top for me. unless i hear first hand info about the nooks being lame

The share concept is pretty cool. However, going back to what I said before about my beloved iPads LCD display, if this is going be primarily a reading device, get the regular Nook with the e-ink. Your eyes will thank you. ;)

Apparently the Kindle just got lending capabilities added into the feature set today similar to the Nook's, just an FYI...
