Here it is, folks. Enjoy.

I am not really all that interested in new comic book film adaptations. This looks like a potentially entertaining film though.

I'm not that interested in this flick either. I'm very on the fence. It may be an entertaining popcorn flick or it could be utter tripe. Its such a weird selection of characters... I know the films and comics are different and all, and I accepted much of the differences in the first two X-flicks okay, but this one just seems to push that to such an extreme I can't even wrap my head around...

The more I see of the trailers and clips the more I love the idea of this movie. I'm all for rushing to see it on opening day!

I really loved it. Though it played fast and loose with the source material, it stayed true to the essence of most of the characters and gave the audience a really fun ride.

I don't want to ruin the film for anyone who hasn't seen it so I'll keep this spoiler-free. I only went to it because it's a comic film and wasn't expected much out of it. But my impression when I left? I loved it! I would even go so far as saying it ranks up as one of the better comic movies ever made! The cast was excellent, the story was fantastic, the film score was top-notch and dare I say it actually FELT like an honest to goodness X-Men story. Not a film adaption but something that could have easily been ripped out of the comics. And this is coming from someone who doesn't LIKE X-Men comics.

However I do have one small problem and I'd like to hear anyone's thought on this. Did you think it was a reboot or a continuation of what came before it (or I suppose in this case, what came AFTER)? For me, it all hinges on if "X-Men: The Last Stand" counts or not.

See, if the Bryan Singer-less X-Men 3 doesn't exist, then I'd happily see this as the next chapter of the film series (especially with all the nods scattered in it). But if X3 DID occur, then this my friend was a clear reboot. For example: one of the first scenes in "X-Men 3" is Professor X and Magneto going to the home of a young Jean Grey. Sure, they were also recruiting in "First Class" but they were nowhere near elderly as Patrick Steward and Ian McKellen were. Plus Charles Xavier was still walking in those days.

But if that movie doesn't count, everything matches up PLUS we don't see another mutant with the code-name "Angel", Storm doesn't cement her age when she says she's 29 (so she couldn't have been born in the 60s), and Cyclops doesn't get the stupidest throw-away death scene ever in all of cinema. It all works!

I know I'm going full geek here but I'm very interested in what you, my trusted advisors and gang, think.

I see it as a full reboot. Otherwise the ages are all wrong.... Spoilers below....

They show Storm as a ten year old in Cerebro in 1962. That would mean Halle Barry's Storm was 50 in the first X-men? And Alex Summers would have to be a heck of a lot older than now younger brother Scott. You definitely can't include the Wolverine movie in the continuity as Charles Xavier is played by a bald (and I believe standing) Patrick Stewart while the White Queen is played by a teenager and in X-men:First Class the White Queen and Professor X are about the same age.

Regardless, I love that X-men First CLass was a good enough movie that we're spending time nitpicking over continuity.

Just saw it this evening. So well done. My wife & I loved it. It's definitely its own story, not strictly adhering to the source material, but it was darn fun. Very happy they brought Singer back into the fold.
