 Dead Air Has Arrived!
Apologies to Brian if this is excessive (in regards to similarly-titled posts).
I went downstairs today after already having an unusually positive Monday morning and found a nice USPS package waiting for me on top of my building's mailbox. The envelope label read Powell's Books (there you go, Oregonians!). When I made it to my car I ripped it open and beheld the wonder that is M. Dalton Allred's Dead Air!
The artwork, the writing, the story, and the feel are so Mike, naturally. This is some amazing stuff. The inspiration I was looking for in reading this early piece of the Allred library leapt out at me, face-first. It's really encouraging to see where someone is now in their development and to catch a glimpse of where they were. Where Mike was, though, was no where detestable. His artwork then was rough, sure, but it still popped. The guy's good, what can I say?
Thank you, Mike, for yet another cool book! Thank you, Powell's, for sending it!

Glad you finally were able to procure a copy. It's my favorite of his early work (did I say that in the other thread) and easily one I can re-read and still wish there was a second volume to.

It's turning out to be a terrific read. I'm having so much fun recalling the songs Mike used throughout the book. My wife might even read it. I first introduced Mike's work to her by explaining the relationship between Frank and Joe. I've told her that I feel like this book definitely speaks to a married person, as would any story dealing with separation, loss, and the dread of not knowing the status of your significant other in a crisis. I keep hoping she'll snap up more of Mike's stuff without any prodding. We'll see.

Glad you were able to get a copy! It took me ages to get one myself and in the fine tradition of my current office space, I can't find it! Still, sounds like you dig it!

Dig it, I do! Mike's early work bolsters my failing confidence as I trudge through the work on my own pages. He had his sense of story and groove from early on though. I think my groove may be outmatched by most things, especially the classic desk novelty, the dancing Coke can. Anyway, Dead Air is worth picking up if you don't already own a copy, fellow Allredites!
